On the Tuesday after Memorial Day in 2012, which was May 29 2012, I had an appointment with my PCP. I let my PCP know that my stomach was fully distended (like I was eight months pregnant, which I was not), and I was going to the bathroom at least seven times a day. Before seeing my PCP, the medical student, whose name was Noah, came into the examination room to do the initial consultation, and he felt something. After Noah’s examination, my PCP came into the examination room, examined me, and informed me that I needed to go to the hospital for an ultrasound right away. I got to the hospital, checked in, had to consume some kind of red drink, wait for a bit, and then have the ultrasound. Upon walking out of the hospital to my car, I got a call from my PCP to go back to his office and discuss the results. I got back to my PCP’s office, which was approximately at 9:40 p.m., and my PCP, Noah and myself sat in the lobby of his office and he told me that I had a mass and it ovarian cancer. My PCP and Noah informed me that they would get me an appointment right away with an oncologist, which they did. The following week, I did, in fact, have a consultation with my oncologist, who mapped out the plan of what he was going to do, and my surgery was scheduled for June 25, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. I remember waking up from surgery at 3:40 p.m. and not needing a colostomy bag. On July 3, 2012, I received a call from my oncologist, while sitting at Starbucks in Vinnin Square in Swampscott, Massachusetts, writing thank you notes, that he had the results from the laboratory which was Stage 1, Grade 1A, I need no need any chemotherapy or radiation, and that he would see him in a few weeks to take out the stitches. I thought at that moment I was going to have a heart attack and just went outside, sat on the curb and just cried.
