Most people who know me know that I get up every day well before the sun rises (weekends most certainly included), hop on my Peloton, and ride the heck out of that bike to nowhere. Fewer people know that my father was very recently diagnosed with, and is about to begin immunotherapy treatment for, Stage IV lung cancer. And yet fewer people know that both of my grandmothers died of cancer, and my mother is a breast cancer survivor. Needless to say, cancer has had, and continues to have, far too much of an impact on my loved ones and my life.
For those reasons, and for everyone else battling, who has lost a battle with, or who has otherwise been affected by, this disease that knows no discrimination, I'm riding in the PMC Winter Cycle at Fenway Park on Saturday, February 4, 2023, and I've made a personal commitment to raise at least $3,000 for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Thanks to Dana-Farber and other institutions like it, immense breakthroughs in immunotherapy treatments have been made within the last decade--breakthroughs that will enable my father to receive treatments that otherwise would not exist as options for him today.
The PMC Winter Cycle is a spoke in the wheel of the Pan-Mass Challenge's annual fundraising campaign, with 100% of every rider-raised dollar going to Dana-Farber. To say that I am looking forward to this event is an understatement, and I appreciate any and every dollar you are able to donate.
